“Lauren Christlieb’s exhibition, Wish You Were Here, is inspired by several carousels of Kodachrome 35mm slides passed down to her through three generations. These 2 x 2 inch positive color film frames were ubiquitous to family photo nights from the mid-twentieth century and can often be found in estate sales or thrift stores today. Her work reveals the shift in our relationship to physical photographs and shared experiences, as technology has moved us to individual devices and terabytes of stored images rarely seen once taken. Enlarged to ten times their original scale, her slides bridge this analog technology with printmaking processes, resulting in objects rather than prints alone. The occasional scribbled inscriptions describing the images and the frame that once held the image in a slide projector can equal, if not become more important than, the image itself. Christlieb brings attention to the details that typically go unnoticed while simultaneously allowing the viewer to see the image clearly.”
